Methodology

How we rate sportsbooks in Canada

A written method for reviews and “best of” pages. Scores are editorial opinions. They are not a promise you will win, get a bonus, or be paid out.

OddsNorth is edited by Joel Pinel in Saskatchewan. We compare books, bonuses, and rules for adults who are legally allowed to use Canadian sportsbooks. We do not sell picks, parlays, or “guaranteed” value.

What a score means

When a review shows a number (0–10), it is a snapshot of how the product looked against the criteria below on the date on the page. A high score is not a recommendation to bet more, and a low score is not a dare. Placeholder reviews ship at 0 until we have a real operator, current terms, and enough to judge.

Criteria

Province availability is first-class. A book that cannot accept readers in the province the page is written for does not rank, no matter how slick the app looks in a screenshot from somewhere else.

  1. Licence and geo. Named regulator where it matters, and an honest map of who can actually open an account. Ontario is not Saskatchewan.
  2. Product. Registration, identity checks, app or site reliability, and whether basic bet tickets are easy to understand.
  3. Markets. Depth and usability on sports Canadians actually bet — NHL and CFL in particular. We look at prices as product quality, not as “locks.”
  4. Banking. Deposit and withdrawal methods people here can use, plus whether advertised payout windows match what the cashier actually does. We will not invent speeds.
  5. Bonuses, only when we can quote them. Wagering, min odds, expiry, and excluded sports from written terms. If we cannot source the current offer, the cell stays TBD. Headline “up to” amounts without terms do not count.
  6. Support. Whether a human can explain a void, a limit, or a KYC hold without a script that contradicts the rules.
  7. Safer-play tools. Deposit limits, timeouts, and self-exclusion that are actually findable. A responsible-gambling footer link is not a substitute for in-product controls.

How money is allowed to show up

OddsNorth may earn a commission from sportsbook links. That is disclosed on every page and in full on affiliate disclosure. Payment from a partner cannot buy a #1 badge, a fabricated bonus, or a live “Visit” button before a tracking URL exists. Soft CTAs stay soft on purpose.

What we will not rate

  • Tips, units, or predicted profit
  • Grey-market books that cannot name a Canadian regulator
  • Welcome offers we have not seen in writing
  • Anyone for whom betting is not legal, including underage users
