Canada's newest open market. Since July 2026 Albertans can bet with roughly 30 registered private brands as well as Play Alberta, at 18+.
Alberta became the second province to open to private commercial operators when its competitive market launched on July 13, 2026. The Alberta iGaming Corporation oversees the market, the AGLC regulates it, and AGLC continues to run Play Alberta. Around 30 brands appear on the registered site list, including bet365, BetMGM, BetRivers, BetVictor, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, Sports Interaction, theScore Bet and TonyBet.
The market runs on an 80/20 revenue split between operators and government, with 3% of gross gaming revenue directed to First Nations and social responsibility funding. Before launch, unregulated operators were estimated to hold about 70% of Alberta's igaming market, and the Alberta iGaming Corporation has said it wants to recapture 75% of that market within two years. Nearly 50 companies paid $200,000 in registration and permit fees.
Alberta's legal gambling age is 18, three years earlier than Ontario. Sites that are not on the registered list are unregulated, and every approved operator must connect to the province's centralized self-exclusion program.
