Sports betting in Ontario
Canada's largest and most competitive betting market. Almost every book on this site is legal here, and the consumer protections are the strongest in the country.
The rules in Ontario
Ontario opened its regulated online market on April 4, 2022 and has been the reference point for Canadian sports betting ever since. Operators need AGCO registration plus an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, and OLG runs PROLINE+ under its own conduct and management. As of September 1, 2026 the market held 49 operators offering 84 gaming websites.
What that means in practice
In the 2024-25 fiscal year, Ontario's regulated market, excluding OLG's own igaming and pari-mutuel horse racing, handled $82.7 billion in wagers and produced $2.9 billion in gaming revenue, across more than 2.6 million active player accounts. Sports and event betting accounted for $11.4 billion of the wagering and roughly a quarter of gaming revenue.
iGaming Ontario launched BetGuard, a centralized self-exclusion tool covering every regulated igaming site in the province including OLG's, open to anyone 19 or older. The AGCO's centralized self-exclusion standards are now in effect.
